tl;dr - to osaka (with malaysia stopover)
return from seoul

Osaka for ease of daytrips to Kyoto/Nara and surrounding areas. Will probably spend at least 1 weekend back in Tokyo though, since a friend that I'm going with hasn't been - and not to mention I love love Tokyo. Then ferry from Shimonoseki to Korea, probably a week in Seoul.

alot more traveling around this time, as opposed to being mostly static in Tokyo city last time. not sure what day trips I'm doing yet with the 1 week railpass apart from Tokyo and Hiroshima/Miyajima(on route to Shimonoseki).

Also I picked up the lonely planet book for Tokyo last time(which was pretty good) but not sure if I can be bothered getting one for both Osaka and Seoul.
